Sports Massage is the original INTEGRATIVE massage. Sports massage is a specialized form of body work geared to the professional athlete and also the sports/fitness enthusiast. Sports massage addresses: Pre and Post event massage, typically done fully clothed and in a minimal amount of time; rhythmic compression technique warms /cools the muscle and stretching exercises, specific to the event involved are generally incorporated. In addition, Prevention and Restorative techniques, such as Swedish massage, joint mobilization, cross fiber, (also referred to as Transverse Friction massage) trigger point therapy, and P. N. F. stretching (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) are used to improve the range of motion of joints & muscle, increasing flexibility & strength, reducing muscle soreness and breaking up scar tissue & micro-adhesions. Hydrotherapy (heat packs, cold applications or ice massage) may be used along with corrective exercise in Sports Massage Therapy.
